Spanish Point - Surf Lessons & Rentals

Spanis Point Beach - Home to Celtic Surf School.

The village of Spanish Point is a popular seaside resort that is nestled in the horseshoe-shaped Mal Bay in West Clare.

Spanish Point Beach is a discovery point on the Wild Atlantic Way and is one of nine International Blue Flag beaches in County Clare. The lengthy sandy beach is a popular bathing and surfing area, while lifeguards are on duty throughout the summer months. The beach has plenty of amenities including a surf school /surfboard rental, free parking, public toilets and shower facilities, an observation deck, picnic tables and a Wildlife Information Point.

Spanish Point is so named because two ships of the Spanish Armada foundered offshore in 1588. A memorial marking the 1986 visit of the King and Queen of Spain and containing a written history of the sinking can be found at the northern entrance to the beach carpark.

Founded in 1896 and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Spanish Point Golf Club is a challenging 9-hole links course that is playable all year round. With walking tourism becoming increasingly popular across Ireland, Spanish Point offers plenty of options for the outdoor enthusiast with numerous trails and loop walks of varying length.

Patrick Hillery, the President of Ireland from 1976 to 1990 was born in Spanish Point and the local library in Miltown Malbay is named after him.

Spanish Point has plenty of accommodation options on offer, including two large seafront hotels, B&B’s, and camping and caravan parks.
